No Christmas Tree, No Christmas Tree

So I go to put my tree up tonight and discover that somewhere in the middle of all of our moves I misplaced the stand for it.  It is not in my house so I assume it is gone forever.  So now I get to go buy another one.  Yippee.  I might get it up before Christmas.

I revamped my site as I am sure you can tell.  I wanted to be able to have categories on the top bar that you could click on to find posts pertaining to certain things.  This was the best I could find without having to pay for it.

Carly says hi 🙂

Back to Christmas trees.  I have always wanted to do a different theme every year.  Maybe one day I will have the money and storage to do so but for now we just have a normal one covered with bright ornaments.  Here are some I found online that I just love…

Which one is your favorite? How do you decorate you tree? Any neat themes?

So fresh and so clean, clean

I got most of my house cleaning done. I still have about 2-3 loads of laundry left plus the kids’ room and bathroom to do.  I really deep cleaned the bathroom which got me to thinking about cleaning supplies and cleaning schedules.

In my house things are pretty laid back right now with no real schedule for getting anything done.  This leads to mass cleanups instead of tiny ones everyday.  I realized it was a problem so I set out to make a cleaning schedule to follow.  I wanted it to be simple yet effective.  I figure it should take me no more than 20 minutes of flash cleaning per day to maintain my house.  Then, once a month I can go through and do things like baseboards/windowsills.  I have found if things get cleaned everyday the cleaning goes way faster.  Here is what I came up with:

Everyday:

  • Clean Kitchen (dishes, counters, trash, sweep floors)
  • Dust (dressers/night stands, TV stands)
  • Pick up clutter/trash
  • Clean Bathroom (counters/sinks/mirrors, floors, empty trash, toilet, tub)

1-2 times/week:

  • Laundry
  • Clean out fridge (throw out expired items/ wipe down shelves)

Monthly:

  • Baseboards
  • Windowsills
  • Dust top of ceiling fans
  • Check for cobwebs
  • Vacuum under/behind furniture and in between couch cushions
  • Clean stove inside and out

I will try this plan out and hopefully it will work for me.  If not it will be back to the drawing board.

The other thing I was thinking about today while cleaning was all the cleaners that are out there.  When you go to the store there are so many options and choices to pick from it is ridiculous.  I currently use these products:

Dusting: Swiffer (Aerosol with febreze scent)

Counters/Glass/All-purpose: Mr. Clean (pink color, unsure of scent)

Tub/Toilet: Scrubbing Bubbles Foam Spray/ Lysol Toilet Bowl cleaner

Dusting for non wood surfaces: Swiffer Duster

Dishes: Cascade Action Packs

Laundry: Cheer detergent/ Downy fabric softener/ Tide stain release packs

What products do you use?  Any great ones I should know about?  This is probably kind of nerdy of me but I love buying cleaning supplies.  Almost as much as I loved buying school supplies when I was in school.  I have no idea why, but there you have it.

At any rate I am super happy to have all of the major cleaning out of my way.  It is a job when you are trying to keep an eye on two toddlers at the same time.  It makes everything take twice as long because you have to stop and poke your head around the corner to be sure they aren’t into anything.  Gotta love em! I will be back here tomorrow so don’t miss me 🙂

Cleaning and Dreaming

Hi everyone!  I was supposed to have my Christmas Tree post going up today but we never got around to putting the tree up this weekend.  Instead we had a very relaxed weekend at home spending lots of time together and watching a ton of television.  We finished another season of The Wire (Stringer Bell died and I am sad because he was my favorite character).

Today I have a full day- cleaning my house top to bottom.  I am stoked.  Can you tell?   I am especially stoked about the bathrooms, woohoo.  But, it has to be done so I will do it.  I just hope the kids cooperate and let me get it done.

As a side note, I have been having the strangest dreams lately.  Most all of them have people in them from high school that I was friends with, some that I haven’t seen in at least 8 years.  I like to try to make sense out of my dreams but these are bizarre enough that I don’t think that will be happening.

I know this post is super short and I may be back later today with another one, not sure yet.  I just have so much cleaning to do and then I’ll be making dinner.  Also, the Giants play tonight so I will definitely be watching that.

In the mean time I want to know if any of you went Black Friday shopping? Are any of you taking advantage of Cyber Monday today? I want to know the kind of deals you guys are getting and also any crazy stories- things you may have seen or that happened to you.  I know you guys saw the people going after the $2 waffle makers, right?  If not, YouTube it now.  I will be back later 🙂

Thanksgiving Recap

We woke up Thanksgiving morning and decided we should eat something to hold us over until we went to dinner at the in-laws house.  Nothing was open except for Wal-mart so we ended up with none other than… California Pizza Kitchen pizza.  We split one between all of us and I took a nap before we went.  I slept a total of 4 hours the night before and I was tired.  After a 30 minute nap Aaron woke me up and I got the twins ready and off we went.  On our way out of town we had to stop and get gas so I went into Starbucks and got a peppermint mocha frappuccino.  It was delightful.

When we got to the in-laws house the food was ready so we all dug in.  There was macaroni and cheese, ham, turkey, dressing and gravy, potato salad, greens, corn, and cranberry sauce.  For dessert there was banana pudding.  My father-in-law makes the best banana pudding- it was divine as always.  I won’t even get started on how good my mother-in-laws sweet tea is because we will be here all day.

Aaron’s brother and his wife came over and I visited with his wife while everyone else watched football.  I also had the chance to browse all of the black Friday ads from the paper and I have to say there were some really great deals.  I myself did not go black Friday shopping this year.  I am more of a fan of cyber Monday because I can sit in the comfort of my own home at any hour I please.

We headed back home at about 6:00 PM with leftovers in tow.  Once home, we watched The Wire (great show) and eventually called it bed time.  This year my family didn’t do Thanksgiving because of being on vacation but I still had a nice day.  The kids really enjoyed themselves and really appreciated the food (they ate more than Aaron).  The leftovers we came home with are already gone and now I have a grocery list to make.  I hope everyone holiday was great.  Did any of you take advantage of Black Friday?  Any crazy stories?

I’ll be back Monday so look for me then!  Have fun!

Thanksgiving Recipe Roundup

Though I am not cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year I still love to look at all of the wonderful recipes I see online and drool over them.  In my family Thanksgiving and Christmas foods are pretty much interchangeable so I will be able to keep these recipes in mind for when the time comes.  You will not see a turkey recipe on here at all because I am very much a ham person- and a buy it already cooked and sliced person at that.  I do not know how to slice a ham properly and I will not be attempting to learn any time soon.  So with that here are some of the recipes I found online while searching that I thought were noteworthy.

All of the recipes above are paleo/primal friendly or most certainly real food.  I love Thanksgiving and often wonder why this amazing food is held to only twice a year.  I assume it is because of the cooking time involved.  Just the other day my mother-in-law suggested we go out to eat…umm no.  I love a home cooked Thanksgiving meal and hers is exceptional.

Does your family go out to eat on Thanksgiving or cook it themselves?

I won’t be here tomorrow because of said holiday but I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

Thankful Tuesday

Thanksgiving is almost here so I thought I would take this opportunity to reflect on what I am thankful for.

First and foremost I am thankful that God has given me this wonderful life.  I owe everything to Him and am grateful beyond words.

I am thankful for my husband because he takes care of me.  He loves me unconditionally and provides for our family.  I love him and I don’t know what I would do without him.

020

I am thankful for my kids because every single day without fail they make me smile.  It is hard to describe, if you have kids you know what I am talking about, but there is just something wonderful about them. They bring joy into every situation and love with all of their hearts. They are my babies.

146

I am thankful for my Lassie because she gives me the comfort and security I need at home.  I know that if anyone tried to hurt us or break in that she would have them for dinner.  I love this dog- she is the best.

I am also thankful to have a roof over my head and food to eat.  I know that is cliché but it is so true.  Every time the weather is awful out whether it be rain or cold I always wonder how the homeless people are.  I am very grateful to have a warm house and plenty of food.  Not to mention all of the extras like TV and a hot shower.

There are so many things I am thankful for when I sit down and think about it- and we would be here all day if I told you all of them.  I just wanted to take a minute and pick out all of the most important ones and share them.

So what are you guys thankful for this year?

In case some of you are headed out of town or won’t be back on the computer until after the holiday I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Gingerbread of My Dreams

Hi everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty normal but still wonderful.

On Saturday night when Aaron got home we talked and then decided we needed some food. We got take-out from McAllister’s- we hadn’t eaten there in such a long time because the last time we did it was sub-par. This time however, it was amazing. I got the combo of half salad/half spud and added a cup of soup. The salad was an Autumn Salad that had dried cranberries, almonds, onions, turkey, and a shallot vinaigrette dressing. It was delicious. For the spud I chose half of a spud max- their best spud on the menu. Then the soup was a potato soup of some sort and it did not disappoint. After dinner we watched some TV and then it was off to bed.

Sunday we got up and had some McD’s again out of convenience and needing groceries. I went to get said groceries while Aaron watched the kids and football simultaneously. The kids love football as young as they are- especially Carly. When she sees it on television she yells “football” and any time someone gets excited while watching football she yells “touchdown” and throws her arms up like a cheerleader. It is adorable. So anyways, I go to the store and it is a much needed break from being mom. When I got back I set the kids up in the kitchen with some rice in a huge container and let them play like it was sand. They had a blast. Shortly after we decided it was time for dinner. As I was getting ready I decided to put more effort than normal into it and curled my hair with my straightener. If you haven’t seen this you should YouTube it because it is amazing. My hair looked awesome and I was hungry so we headed out. We ended up at Red Robin. We got their wings for an appetizer and they were very good- perfect amount of spice to them. For the meal, Aaron and I split the Bleu Ribbon Burger and it is always good. Then for dessert- which is the reason I wanted to go there to begin with, we had the Gingerbread Milkshake.

image

Holy yum! It is the best milkshake in the world hands down. I am a milkshake genius so all of your arguments are invalid. Seriously, it rocks. Run and go try it. Now. I’ll wait.

Back so soon? Awesome wasn’t it? I rest my case.

After dinner we watched some Supernatural (oh how I love you Dean Winchester) until the football game came on.

image

Giants vs. Eagles is always interesting and this was no exception. Once again our Giants lost but that’s okay- next week hopefully we will win. After that we were off to bed.

So that was my weekend- I want to hear about everyone else’s. Today is pretty much a do nothing kind of day so I’m off to do just that!
